Based on the directives of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers regarding taking preventive measures to combat fires and in implementation of the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the General Directorate of Civil Defense, the National University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Directorate of Civil Defense in Dhi Qar, held a workshop entitled (Occupational Safety and Health) that included several axes. The most important of them:-
⁃ Causes of fires, their types and methods of extinguishing them
⁃ Dealing with emergency situations during a fire
⁃ Preventive measures and safety equipment 
⁃ Types of fire extinguishers and methods of use.
