RUR (Round University Ranking)

The RUR (Round University Ranking) is a global university ranking system launched in 2010 by the RUR Rankings Agency, based in Russia. It evaluates university performance based on 20 indicators across four main areas: Teaching, which assesses the quality of education and interaction between students and faculty members; Research, which measures the volume and impact of academic research produced by the university; International Diversity, which evaluates the level of international collaboration and global integration; and Financial Sustainability, which examines the financial resources available to support university activities. The RUR ranking aims to provide a comprehensive overview of universities' global performance, including more than 1,200 universities from 85 countries, helping students and academic decision-makers compare institutions at an international level. In the RUR 2024 ranking, the National University of Science and Technology secured a global ranking across the four main pillars. In the Teaching Ranking, the university was ranked 988th globally and 17th in Iraq, with a total score of 30.710, placing it in the World League. This ranking reflects the university's teaching quality based on factors such as the student-to-faculty ratio, the number of degrees awarded per category, and the university's online visibility. In the Research Ranking, the university was positioned 1127th globally and 37th in Iraq, with a score of 10.005, also within the World League. The evaluation criteria included citations per academic staff, the number of published research papers, and the normalized citation impact. Regarding International Diversity, the university ranked 1111th globally and 33rd in Iraq, with a score of 17.944, again classified within the World League. This ranking assesses the share of international students, the number of research papers co-authored internationally, and the university's media presence on a global scale. Finally, in Financial Sustainability, the university achieved a ranking of 688th globally and 2nd in Iraq, with a total score of 42.985, maintaining its position in the World League. This category measures the institution's financial stability, including institutional income per faculty member, research funding, and the ratio of research income to overall institutional revenue. These rankings reflect the university's strengths in financial sustainability while highlighting areas for improvement in research output, international collaboration, and teaching quality to enhance its global academic standing.
